Why the Abject Denial of Independent Voters by the DNC Risks a Trump Presidency

On May 3rd, after the Indiana Primary, it became abundantly clear that Donald Trump WOULD be the GOP nominee for president of the United States. The realization of this long-time-coming fact set the bitter taste of reality in the mouths of many in the establishment DNC. Establishment Big-Wigs far and wide began to expound about how anything and everything MUST be done to avoid what even many republicans concede would be a disastrous presidency if Donald Trump is able to pull off in the general election what he has pulled off in the GOP primaries.
If they are SERIOUS about this, then it's time for them to be face a hard reality check and a couple of even harder truths:
1. You can't win the general election WITHOUT the Independent vote...
And 2. THIS is the year of the anti-establishment candidate, and Hillary is the dowager Empress of establishment Washington... When it comes to the Independent vote, the facts are VERY clear in a recent piece from the Wall Street Journal, which I think everyone can agree is NOT a fan of Bernie Sanders:
From the Wall Street Journal -
" the striking decline in independents’ view of Mrs. Clinton is indicative of the popularity of Mr. Sanders, who served in the Senate as an independent before running for president as a Democrat. The Vermont senator is far more popular among independents..." " Mr. Trump’s standing among independents is even worse than that of his would-be general-election rival. Just 19% of independents viewed Mr. Trump favorably in the latest poll, while 67% had a negative opinion. " With 43% of registered voters listed as Independent, it's extremely obvious that Bernie Sanders would walk away with the lions share of the Indy vote in the general election. And before anyone starts trying to tell you it doesn't matter because of Hillary's lead bolstered by red-state wins that WILL go Trump in the general or closed primaries where the Independent vote was barred, let it be pointed out that CLOSED Primary results don't mean a damn when it comes to an OPEN general election...
That's just the plain truth, it may be an unpleasant truth for many in the hierarchy on the DNC and their status-quo allies, but that doesn't change the reality of this election.
